Youthquake Sends 42 Youth & Adult Missionaries to New Orleans
PCBA-sponsored Program Joins Home Mission Society Project

Continuing the work of rebuilding in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward ravished in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina, forty-two Bay Area American Baptist young people and adults journeyed there to participate in a project of the denomination’s Home Mission Society.

Important projects undertaken by the mission team included working on the home of a woman who had paid a contractor unsuccessfully to repair her home, helping ready a charter school serving kindergarten through 8th grade students, painting picnic tables and picking up trash at a small local store serving an overlooked neighborhood, and working to transform an abandoned building into an Internet café for youth near a new high school. BLT on Wednesday, May 11 POSTPONED

TO: PCBA Board Members and those signed up for the May 11 BLT

We find Grand Lake Gardens cannot accommodate us for our BLT program or Board meeting this Wednesday, the 11th. (With Joan Thatcher’s illness, we miss her faithful coordination of events over many years with Grand Lake).

In light of this, we must postpone this Wednesday’s program of Jesse Lucas’ presentation on the Evergreen mission trip to Haiti.
We will, however, still hold our important May Board meeting It will be at 1:00 at Lakeshore. We do not plan to provide any lunch, but hope to have some snacks at hand.

– Alice Edmondson and Louann Roberts,
PCBA Co-Presidents

PCBA Concern: “Saving Redwood Glen”

Redwood GlenPCBA has received word of a critical circumstance at Redwood Glen Camp which may determine its ability to continue in the future. Knowing of PCBA’s interest in the Camp, we forward this announcement for your information and response.

We need your help! The State is giving us a deadline to raise money to build a new water system and become water independent. We need your financial support now to prevent the camp from being sold. Could you give $20 and send this plea to 20 others who may be able to assist us? To give, click here: http://redwoodglen.com/support/contribute.php

The plight

For the past two years, we have been in negotiations with the County of San Mateo and State of California Water Board over access to water as Redwood Glen seeks to become water independent. On March 1st, the County turned off water to our facilities and we were no longer granted permission to truck in water to meet the needs of our guests. Events were cancelled, summer camp registration was put on hold, and staff were preparing for lay-offs with impending closure.
